Granny Chic~

Fashion has a tendency to repeat itself. Clothing trends that where popular 30 years ago such as skinny jeans, denim jackets and waist belts are back in fashion, as are floral dresses and tweed jackets.

Vintage is seen to be a sign of quirky coolness (read; hipster) which has led to the rise and rise of what can only be described as "granny chic". It eccentricity that wants to be noticed. This has led to the strange sight of twenty- and thirty-something women in predictable image-conscious areas proudly sporting too-tight tea dresses, frumpy cardigans and battered, Queen-like handbags.

(I don't even think my own gran and nana would wear this, for fear of it making them look old. Go figure)

But high-street shops such as topshop and miss selfridges have conned onto trend and their new collections are giving of the vintage feel complete with the smell of the workshop. "Some people like the look but want to have it without wearing shoes that are actually secondhand." Sort of defeats the purpose of vintage...don't you think?

Who knows, maybe in another 30 years time we'll be wearing peasant garb and pantaloons.
